Types of slots: Cascading Reels

Cascading Reels:

Cascading reels slots are characterised by the way their win lines work. Although symbols usually drop into the screen in a more obvious way than with traditional video slots the lines are activated in the same way.

Wins are awarded as they are with normal slots but after the win the winning symbols usually explode leaving a gap in the lines.

The gaps are then filled either by the symbols above the gap dropping down, or by news symbols falling in to replace gaps at the top of a line.

Because of this a single win can trigger another win as new symbols fall in, and so on, theoretically it’s possible to have infinite winning lines (I presume!), in reality you may get 3 or 4 wins in a row.

Each subsequent win usually draws a higher bonus value.

  • Win 1 = 1 times payout
  • win 2 = 2 times payout
  • win 3 = 3, 4or 6 times payout etc
  • Win 4 will often trigger a bonus game in the same way that Scatter symbols do in normal slots.

Often the bonus games in Cascading Reels games are fairly boring as they rely on the same mechanism but with increased payouts. This isn’t always the case though.

Best examples of Cascading Reels –

Online = Gonzo’s Quest.

Offline = Crystal Forest. A personal favourite of mine with excellent motion and music. There are loads of these though, especially offline.

Not everyone’s cup of tea but give them a try and don’t turn up your nose at them straight away . I didn’t like them for a long time but they slowly grew on me and now they are the first slot I look for in an offline casino.

Good luck!
